Do you spend excessive time feeling guilty about things you’ve said and done? Do you lose sleep or get distracted easily because of these thoughts and feelings? Are there relationships you want to build or repair? There are two things that we all think about during our lives: 1) The quality of our relationships and 2) the people we’ve influenced.
This sort of unfinished business can be a constant energy drain, robbing us of vitality, productivity, and joy. It prevents us from having the life we truly want --if left unchecked, it can lead to serious depression and anxiety. It’s like paying rent for a great place that you never actually move into and enjoy. One of the most important life processes is the act of forgiving ourselves and others. Without this process, bitterness and feelings of worthlessness can slowly consume our mind, heart, body, and spirit. Although there are often temporary periods of grieving and learning during our lives, we are not meant to live in a constant state of anguish.
Counseling is a perfect place to work on forgiveness and resolution. If you’ve never been to therapy before and are curious, think about how it feels to talk with a good friend; however, in therapy, your privacy is guaranteed while the therapist provides clarity and objectivity. Sometimes those close to us can become too involved and can’t see clearly because their advice and judgment are impaired by the relationship.
Many clients have reported that they’ve become frustrated with therapists who “just sit there and listen without saying much.” While being present and empathic, and using the professional listening skills necessary for effective counseling, I provide clear feedback, insight, and advice that can be both refreshing and comforting.
I am willing to fully engage with my clients. I offer my genuine thoughts and opinions – but I’m not judgmental! Most important, I’m willing to risk initiating and responding to uncomfortable topics in a therapy session when appropriate. I also have extensive experience working with bipolar disorder/manic depression and depression. I offer life coaching as well.
